Write On is happy to continue our collaboration with Midsummer’s Music, Poetry Meets Music. At one concert in each of Midsummer’s series offerings, a poet will read a poem written in response to a piece of music to be performed. Poets were given recordings in advance with no identifying information as to the title, composer, era, etc., and were asked not to look up this information. The result is a poem composed entirely in response to the emotions or memories the music evokes.
For tonight’s concert, we are pleased to present poet David Clowers. Tonight’s concert is Dvorák and Brahms. To order tickets, please visit Midsummer’s Music.
David Clowers’s family camped in Peninsula State Park during the 1950’s. He bought 30 acres of Door County woods in 1976, before moving into a self-built, off the grid cabin in 2001, all of which qualifies him, according to natives of Door County as being “a Newcomer.” After his move, in addition to practicing law and doing the Legal Aid Clinic for the County, he joined the Unabridged Poetry group, a critical resource that includes 5 past and present Door County Poets Laureate. His poems have appeared in Your Daily Poem, Fox Cry, the Peninsula Pulse, Door County Living, the Wisconsin
Fellowship of Poets Calendars, Moss Piglet, Bramble and in the anthologies, Amethyst and Agate, Soundings, and Halfway to The North Pole. Previously active in Isadoora and Rogue community theater companies as a performer and for Rogue as a board member, he now serves as the chair of Door Shakespeare’s Board of Directors.
