Topics

In this three-day intensive fiction course, intermediate to advanced fiction writers will be reintroduced to some of the fundamental elements of fiction, including point of view, character, setting, dialogue, voice and style, plot, structure, and a story’s architecture and form. These topics will be covered in craft talks, then applied via a series of exercises and assignments, the sum of which will leave students with a depth of understanding they might not otherwise find as well as finished prose for their work-in-progress.

Participants should have at least a well-formed idea for a novel or short story when they show up on the first day. Ideally, they might even have 10-20 pages written before they arrive. Optional add-on: participants may schedule a half hour one-on-one consultation with the teaching artist to discuss their work in progress. Cost of consultation is $75.00. Separate registration is required for the consultation.
