As part of programming for Door County Reads, we offer Echoes in the Story, focused on how fiction can serve as a powerful tool for healing grief, particularly the overlooked grief of losing someone while they are still living. Grief arises as we witness someone we love slip away slowly through dementia, chronic illness, addiction, or other changes that distance them from who they once were. This workshop will create space for those navigating this quieter, ongoing loss — a type of grief that deserves to be seen and honored. Through guided writing prompots, group discussion, and short examples from literature, participants will explore their emotions and the deep-rooted grief they may be too scared to look at on their own. Participants will craft short scenes, character sketches, or story beginnings inspired by their own experieces of anticipatory grief. No prior writing experience is necessary.

Though free, registration is required as space is limited.
