Join us at the Sturgeon Bay Fine Arts Fair for a special edition of Art/Speaks, our free creative lab with writing inspired by art. Sculptor Teresa Lind will hold a public aluminum pour for a new sculpture that will be installed on the East Waterfront Promenade. The public is invited to take part in both the pour and the writing activity. Poems created by this event will later be shared at the public opening for the installation.
The anticipated sculpture is a woman looking out to the water, waiting for a ship to return. During the fair, Teresa will do an aluminum pour for the tiles that will create the bottom of the dress of the woman. People will have the opportunity to express on the tiles what they love about Sturgeon Bay. Those tiles will become part of the sculpture. Join Write On’s Founding and Artistic Director Jerod Santek for a special session of Art/Speaks. From 11 am – noon, participants will be led in writing haiku about Sturgeon Bay or Door County that can be incorporated in the tiles. The first aluminum pour will be at noon. During the second hour, participants can observe the pour and create new poems about the experience, or they can take inspiration from the art on exhibit throughout the fair. While encouraged, it is not necessary to stay for the full two hours. Please feel free to take part in whichever hour’s activity appeals to you.
Later in the summer, when the sculpture is installed and revealed to the public, participants will be invited to share the poems created today.
The program is free and open to all ages. No registration is required. No previous writing experience is required.
