KIDS WOW 2026: Unleash Your Imagination: A Writing Workshop Like No Other with Baptiste Paul

For writers entering 6th – 8th grades in fall!

Calling all young storytellers! Get ready for an exciting writing workshop that will ignite your creativity and bring your stories to life! In this interactive session, we’ll dive into the magicc of imaginative storytelling, focusing on what makes a character truly unforgettable. Through engaging activities, students will:

• Craft a unique character with distinct voices, behaviors and perspectives
• Explore their imagination to build compelling, original stories
• Learn key writing techniques to develop and refine their ideas
• Edit and enhance their stories for a polished final masterpiece

This workshop is designed to excite and inspire students about both writing and reading. Whether you’re a budding author or just love to create, this experience will help you unlock your storytelling potential!

Teaching Artist’s Statement: Storytelling has captivated audiences for centuries. Over the years, we’ve seen books turned into movies and Broadway shows, to name a few. As a child, I loved listening to the elders from my village share stories about mythical creatures and made-up worlds. I watched their every movement. My eyes danced as they moved strategically through the crowd. I listened intently to every word. I was hooked as soon as they opened their mouths. I  imagined myself being transported as one of the characters in their stories, navigating obstacles and solving complex problems.

Class meets Monday – Friday, June 22 – 26, 1 – 4 pm

Class size: Minimum 5, maximum 14.

Teaching Artist: Baptiste Paul is the award-winning author of The Field, To Carnival, I Am Farmer: Growing an Environmental Movement in Cameroon, and Dear You, Dream Big. His works have been given many starred reviews from Kirkus, Booklist, and School Library Journal. In addition to being an author and storyteller, he is a dad and a sports fan (loves soccer!). He enjoys sharing his island culture and Kweyol/Creole language with anyone who will listen. He also enjoys roasting his own coffee and making his own chocolate bars.
