POETRY READING: April Gibson, Roy Guzmán, and Kathryn Kysar

Write On is proud to host a reading with three highly-acclaimed poets: April Gibson, Roy Guzmán, and Kathryn Kysar. The reading is free and open to the public. A light reception will be available. Poets will have their books available for sale and signing.

April Gibson is a poet, writer, and professor. Her work has appeared in The Kenyon Review, Michigan Quarterly Review, Rhino Poetry, and Prairie Schooner among other publications. April is a recipient of The Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Award (State of Illinois), The Sustainable Arts Foundation Award, and has been awarded fellowships and residencies from The Vermont Studio Center, The Poetry Foundation, and The Loft Literary Center among others. Her forthcoming collection of poetry, The Span of a Small Forever, was published by Amistad Press/Harper Collins in April 2024. She teaches English at Malcolm X College (City Colleges of Chicago).

Roy G. Guzmán is a Honduran poet and scholar. Their first collection, Catrachos, was published by Graywolf Press in 2020 and was a finalist for both the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and the Minnesota Book Award in Poetry. Raised in Miami, Roy was named a Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellow in 2017. They have also received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Minnesota State Arts Board. In 2016, Roy was the recipient of a Scribe for Human Rights Fellowship, focusing on issues affecting migrant farm workers in Minnesota.

Kathryn Kysar is the author of two books of poetry, Dark Lake and Pretend the World, and she edited the anthology Riding Shotgun: Women Write About Their Mothers. She has received fellowships and residencies from the Anderson Center, the Minnesota State Arts Board, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Oberholtzer Foundation, and Write On, Door County. Her work has been recently published in Hayden’s Ferry Review, The Mollyhouse, Slag Glass City, and Voicemail Poems. She is the founder the creative writing program at Anoka-Ramsey Community College and does writing career consultations and manuscript editing for the Loft Literary Center.
