Artist Conversation: Filmmaker Pamela K. Johnson

Pamela K. Johnson is a 2023-2024 O’Brien Fellow in Public Service Journalism at Marquette University. Her project is a feature-length documentary centered around Black people and swimming. Over the last five years, she’s made two short films on swimming. During her conversation here, she will show the short docs and share her lookbook* for the longer project.

*Cinematography lookbooks contain a collection of reference images illustrating scene layout, setting, and lighting. This may be used by a cinematographer to show a director how to illustrate or communicate the intended result of a scene, or vice versa when the director has something particular in mind.
