Bringing excitement to expression! Poet and spoken word artist, Dasha Hamilton, takes students from blank page to shared stage in a single class. Word Play! guides students through a process of creating, thinking, and scribbling and includes techniques on performance and public speaking. Each session is designed to engage young people in their thoughts (fresh and familiar), strengthen creative problem solving through “word puzzles” (aka “poems”), and to build muscle for listening AND being heard. AND HAVE FUN!
This session is intended for high school students. If you would like to register a person who is not currently in high school, please call 920-868-1457 and ask to speak with Artistic Director Jerod Santek.
Dasha Kelly Hamilton is a writer, performance artist, curator and facilitator. Ultimately, she’s a creative change agent, leveraging the creative process toward human and social wellness. Dasha has written for national, regional and local magazines; produced three collections of poetry; recorded four spoken word CDs; published two novels; been included in several anthologies; and performed in the last season of HBO’s Def Poetry Jam. Her nonprofit, Still Waters Collective, initiated literary arts programming for 20 years, creating platforms for thousands of voices to be honored and heard. Through the organization, she still partners on impact projects and manages a creative leadership fellowship.
This program is presented in partnership with Door Community Auditorium, Ephraim Historical Foundation, and the Friends of Gibraltar in conjunction with Dasha’s Passport Program: Makin’ Cake at the DCA, Friday, March 1, 7 pm.
