Write On is happy to continue our collaboration with Midsummer’s Music, Poetry Meets Music. At one concert in each of Midsummer’s series offerings, a poet will read a poem written in response to a piece of music to be performed. Poets were given recordings in advance with no identifying information as to the title, composer, era, etc., and were asked not to look up this information. The result is a poem composed entirely in response to the emotions or memories the music evokes.

For today’s concert, we are pleased to present poet Chera Van Falcon Burg. Today’s concert is The Majesty of Schubert’s Octet. To order tickets, please visit Midsummer’s Music.

Chera Van Falcon Burg is a poet, filmmaker, and psychologist. Her poems have been published in poetry journals, calendars, and on poetry trails. Her first book of poetry, What We Can See, was published by Four Windows Press in 2024. The book has received praise from former Door County Poet Laureate, Estella Lauter, and Albert DeGenova, poet and executive director of Write On, Door County. Chera has performed her poetry with musicians in the US, Mexico, and Europe, and she was one of six featured poets in Words On Fire, a 2023 performance of music and poetry at Door Community Auditorium. She is the producer of the award-winning film, Call of Life, about the drivers of the current mass extinction crisis and the psychological and cultural underpinnings that contribute to it. As an environmental activist, Chera was executive director of the environmental non-profit organization, Species Alliance, and presented at a conference on climate change at the United Nations. She was a professor of psychology in California and New York and has published in psychology journals. For more information, visit www.cheravanfalconburg.com.
