Write On’s Door County Published Authors Collective (DCPAC) presents the on-going series, Local Authors Discuss, in which writers address a specific genre or theme. Today’s program focuses on writing fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres. Authors Patrick Baird, Scott Burtness, Tom Davis, and Ann Linquist will share work from their novels, discuss their genres, and take audience questions.

Patrick Baird is the author of two military science fiction novels, The Nowhere Navy and its sequel, The Epsilon Passage. He has also written four books in The Beatnik Spy series.

People say you should write what you know so Scott Burtness writes about ordinary Midwesterners making an extraordinary mess of things. According to Scott, ‘ordinary’ totally includes vampires, werewolves, zombies, shapeshifters, aliens, and more. Heck, it is the Midwest, after all.

Tom Davis has published a dozen books, including the epic poem The Weirding Storm, and In the Unsettled Homeland of Dreams, which received the Edna Fiction Book Award. He is interested in how fantasy can blend into historically based content in a novel.

Ann Linquist grew up in the suburbs of Chicago in a family of four girls, all of whom became writers. She now makes her home on 13.5 acres of woods and meadows outside Fish Creek. She is the author of two middle grade fantasy novels, as well as a guide to writing.
