The Poet Laureates of Door County, Thomas and Ethel Mortenson Davis, and Write On
are inviting the public to an Evening of Irish Poetry and Potluck at the writing center in Juddville. Participants are asked to bring a dish to share based on Irish cuisine (or maybe Irish beer) as part of a potluck as well as a poem from either Irish literature or their own pen if it has an Irish theme or lilt.
During the celebratory evening, everyone who has a poem will be invited to read although simply listening, eating, and enjoying is welcomed too.
Past Poet Laureates of Door County have sponsored similar gatherings in the past, emphasizing a variety of countries and their poetry around the world.
According to Ethel Davis, food and poetry go together and help give a gift to those who participate that becomes an inspiration for a more poetic and human world.
Area poets are an important part of the Irish evening, but those who have never written a poem in their lives are especially invited. “We hope both poets and non-poets show up with a song in their spirits and a twinkle in the eye,” Thomas Davis said. “Door County is the County of Poets in Wisconsin! Readers of poetry are every bit as valued as the poets themselves.”
