Write On is happy to resume our collaboration with Midsummer’s Music, Poetry Meets Music. At one concert in each of Midsummer’s series offerings, a poet will read a poem written in response to a piece of music to be performed. Poets were given recordings in advance with no identifying information as to the title, composer, era, etc., and were asked not to look up this information. The result is a poem composed entirely in response to the emotions or memories the music evokes.
For tonight’s concert, we are pleased to present Wisconsin Fellowship of Writers Life Member, Yvette Flaten. Tonight’s concert is Scintillating Summer Serenades with works by Paul Wranitzky, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Berhnard Molique. To order tickets, please visit Midsummer’s Music.
Yvette Flaten writes both fiction and poetry. Her award-winning poetry has appeared widely in numerous journals, including the Wisconsin Academy Review, Midwest Review, Sow’s Ear, Blue Heron Review, Red Cedar Review, Barstow and Grand, Ariel Anthology as well as many Wisconsin Poets’ Calendars. In May 2020, her poem “Riding It Out,” was one of ten winners in Garrison Keillor’s Pandemic Poetry Contest.
