Now in its 10th season, Great Lakes/Great Books meets the first Thursday of the month September – May to discuss books that have the Great Lakes as setting or subject matter or that are related to water and/or the Great Lakes region. All are welcome, whether you have read the book or not! The selection for this month is Weird Tales of the Great Lakes by Aleco Julius. Please note: Due to the New Year’s holiday, this month’s discussion will be on Thursday, January 9.

About the Book:

An archeology student has an aquatic encounter with an ancient deity. One woman’s shipwrecked fate is mysteriously avenged. Friends on a fishing trip catch something far stranger than they could have imagined. A man becomes obsessed with collecting seashells before realizing the dread significance of their patterns.

Each story in this collection is inspired by the legendary lore of the Great Lakes. These inland seas are home to a mythos of tragedy and beauty where glaciers have carved out the contours of the land inn ages past and enigmas hide beneath the troubled waves.
