Lora Hyler began writing books for children following a career in radio news at National Public Radio and ABC affiliates in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She’s also worked in television at the NBC affiliate, in corporate communications at an energy company, at a national media company, and owns a 23-year old public relations company. Lora primarily writes for middle school children and teens. Her traditional publishing contract includes a multiple book series. Her debut novel, The Stupendous Adventures of Mighty Marty Hayes was published in 2018. The book features multi-cultural superheroes working on CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology, who share a love of spy gadgets. She’s also written a book to help kids cope with the effects of the coronavirus on their lives. Her latest book, Journeys of Home: Stories of Migration, Perseverance and Culture, was published in July 2023 by SHARP Literacy. The book features personal stories of three authors, with Lora serving as lead. The book was distributed to 9,000 Wisconsin schoolchildren, and is for sale on SHARP Literacy’s website. She’s working on book two in her Stupendous Adventures series, as well as an astronomy picture book.
This past spring, she joined one of JK Rowling’s editors at a writing seminar in Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory, which sits between Southern Spain and Northern Africa. She’s here in Door County, one of her favorite places, for a week-long writer’s residency, and has been creating among our beautiful surroundings.
