The practice of using words to comment on a piece of visual art—ekphrasis—is an ancient one. One of the earliest and most commonly cited forms of ekphrasis occurs in The Iliad, when Homer provides a long and discursive account of the elaborate scenes embossed on the shield of Achilles. POETRY MEETS MUSIC: A Collaboration with Midsummer’s Music

Write On is pleased to enter our fourth year of collaboration with Midsummer’s Music! Local and visiting poets were asked to create original poems based on music to be played at one of Midsummer’s concerts. Poets were sent a CD of music to be performed the night of their concert, but with no information as to the composers or other details.
