When the world is reduced to Door County, and then further reduced to a view of snow-covered meadow, blindingly white but for a cardinal perched on the branch of a redbud tree, all becomes clear. Anyone fortunate enough to journey within this little world for a week will inevitably return to the bigger, more bustling one a better writer, a better person.
