I love the former chicken coop/studio! I had never been on a writer’s retreat before, always (secretly) thought, “Why can’t people just write at home? Apply seat to chair, etc.”
But walking down a little woodland meadow path to a small wooden room with a driftwood handle door, and everywhere clever things made by a dead-but-somehow-very-present-crusty-old-writer is different than sitting at home, at a desk.
To look out at fields and a forest instead of a wall is different. To have a very quiet space, all by yourself — it helped me think, in a way that surprised me.
I was able to step back from the manuscript I was revising and see how the pieces could come together better.
It was, well, sort of “magick.”
Thanks so much to everyone at Write On, Door County!
Best wishes always,
