May 22 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Write On presents a special workshop in collaboration with The Ridges Sanctuary in celebration of their annual Festival of Nature with California poet Tamara Madison. All ages are welcome! We will gather at the Nature Center to begin the program.

Let’s take a tip from Mary Oliver and bring our pens and notebooks on a nature walk! In fact, bring your favorite nature poem, too, to share as we get started. In this workshop, we will closely examine the natural world, exploring all facets of growing things large and small, animate and inanimate, ugly or beautiful, and discover how those items link with our own sense of place in the world. We will work on crafting poems that do more than describe; we will use the natural world as a jumping off point to explore the wildness within us and turn that wildness into poetry.

Registration opens March 16th, at 10 am. Register through the Festival of Nature website or by calling the Nature Center at 920-839-2802.

Tamara Madison grew up on a citrus farm near Mecca, California, and began writing poetry as soon as she could hold a pen. She is the author of the chapbook The Belly Remembers, which won the 2004 Jane Buel Bradley Prize, as well as two full-length volumes of poetry, Wild Domestic and Moraine, all published by Pearl Editions. Madison’s poems have twice been featured on Garrison Keillor’s THE WRITER’S ALMANAC. Her work has appeared in Chiron Review, Your Daily Poem, A Year of Being Here, Sheila-Na-Gig, Nerve Cowboy, the Writer’s Almanac and other publications. She is thrilled to have recently retired from teaching English and French in a Los Angeles high school.
