As an author, you know when to send your manuscript to an agent or publisher. But when do you begin publicizing your book? When do you need a website? A social media presence? And how do you pursue interviews, reviews, presentations and other activities that promote your work and get you fans? Veteran book publicist and author Lynn Wiese Sneyd will share tips and insights into the world of book publicity. You’ll return to your writing desk with enough know-how to custom-design a marketing campaign to fit your personal publicity needs and budget and still have time to write that next bestseller!
Joining Lynn will be author H. Alan Day, publisher Todd Doughty, and mystery novelist Shannon Baker.
Attendees will learn:
- How to create a timeline for a publicity campaign
- The “nuts and bolts” of a campaign (e.g. website, media kit)
- Which social media platforms to use
- How to solicit book reviews, interviews, and speaking gigs
- Best daily activities to perpetuate publicity

Lynn Wiese Sneyd is an award-winning author and owner of LWS Literary Services in Tucson, which she founded in 2008. She coordinates book publicity campaigns for authors, writes query letters and book proposals, ghostwrites, and edits. Her most recent published works include Cowboy Up! (Morgan James Publishing) and The Horse Lover: A Cowboy’s Quest to Save the Wild Horses (University of Nebraska Press and winner of NM-AZ Book Award, among other awards), both of which were co-authored with H. Alan Day. A frequent presenter at writer’s conferences and workshops, Lynn also is the literary consultant for the Tucson Festival of Books., now the third largest book festival in the country. She earned a B.A. in English from the University of Wisconsin and received a fellowship from the Ragdale Foundation. Currently, she and her husband reside in Tucson, AZ.
H. Alan Day, a retired rancher and life-long cowboy, grew up on a 200,000 southwestern cattle ranch. Along with his sister Sandra Day O’Connor, he wrote the bestselling memoir, LAZY B, and then went on to write “THE HORSE LOVER: A Cowboy’s Quest to Save the WIld Mustangs” and “COWBOY UP! Life Lessons from Lazy B.” He currently co-hosts “The Cowboy Up Podcast.”
Todd Doughty is currently SVP, deputy publisher of Doubleday and has worked at Penguin Random House for more than two decades. A graduate of Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) and former bookseller, he lives with his partner in Westchester County, New York. He is the author of “LITTLE PIECES OF HOPE: Happy-Making Things in a Difficult World.”
Shannon Baker is the author of three mystery series–the Kate Fox, Nora Abbot, and Michaela Sanchez series–and one stand alone mystery. She twice received the Writer of the Year award from the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers. Currently a resident of Tucson, AZ, she spent 20 years in the Sand Hills of Nebraska.
