Write On is pleased to present the current Door County and Wisconsin Poets Laureate, Nancy Rafal and Margaret Rozga, in a reading held in conjunction with the exhibit of their work on the Newport State Park Poetry Trail.
NOTE: in case of inclement weather, the reading will be held at the Jensen Center of The Clearing and will start at 1:30. Click here for directions.
Nancy Rafal lives in “downtown” Baileys Harbor and finds that she writes ekphrastically to two- dimensional art and to music. Her writing follows no routine or discipline. In March, she was appointed Door County Poet Laureate by the county board of supervisors, serving from April 2019 through March 2021.
Current Wisconsin Poet Laureate Margaret Rozga has published four books
of poetry, including Pestiferous Questions: A Life in Poems (2017).
Rozga served as editor of the poetry chapbook anthology Where I Want to
Live: Poems for Fair & Affordable Housing, a project for the 50th
anniversary of Milwaukee’s fair housing marches. She participated in
those marches, wrote about them in her award-winning first book, 200 Nights and One Day. She is currently working on a series of Alice in Wonderland themed poems and looks forward to reading from this work for the first time at Newport State Park.
