Celebrate National Poetry Month with the launch of Albert DeGenova’s new book Human Nature, Mauricio Kilwein Guevara doing his first Door County reading, and Tori Grant Welhouse reading new work and poems from her award-winning book Vaginas Need Air

Albert DeGenova is an award-winning poet, publisher, and teacher, as well as the Executive Director of Write On, Door County. He is the author of five books of poetry and two chapbooks. DeGenova is the founder of After Hours Press and editor of After Hours magazine, a journal of Chicago writing and art which launched in June of 2000.  He received his MFA from Spalding University in Louisville. He is also a blues saxophonist.

Mauricio Kilwein Guevara was born in Boyacá, Colombia and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the first Latino to be elected President of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, where he was instrumental in diversifying the organization’s membership and programming. His first poetry collection, Postmortem (Georgia), was selected for the Contemporary Poetry Series by Lynn Emanuel. His most recent volume, POEMA (Arizona), received an International Latino Book Award. His play, The Last Bridge/El último puente, received a fully staged reading Off-Broadway. He taught poetry and fiction for many years in the graduate creative writing program at the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee. From 2019 to 2021, Mauricio had the pleasure of serving on the board of directors at Write On, Door County.

Tori Grant Welhouse is a poet and novelist from Green Bay with an award-winning poetry chapbook, Vaginas Need Air (Etchings Press, 2020), and a prize-winning young adult fantasy novel The Fergus (Skyrocket Press, 2020). Her poems have appeared most recently in Half Mystic, The Woolf, and Bone Bouquet. She is an active volunteer for the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and design coordinator for the literary magazine Bramble.
