Write On is pleased to enter our fourth year of collaboration with Midsummer’s Music!
Local and visiting poets were asked to create original poems based on music to be played at one of Midsummer’s concerts. Poets were sent a CD of music to be performed the night of their concert, but with no information as to the composers or other details. Poets were asked to write a poem or poems in response to the emotions evoked by the music they heard. Music and Poetry will take place at eight of Midsummer’s concerts, occurring at different venues throughout the county. The featured poet for tonight’s opening gala and reception is Door County Poet Laureate Nancy Rafal. She will be joined by Wisconsin Public Radio host, Norman Gilliland, who will serve as master of ceremonies.
To order tickets, visit www.midummersmusic.com or call 920-854-7088.
Nancy Rafal lives in “downtown” Baileys Harbor and finds that she writes ekphrastically to two- dimensional art and to music. Her writing follows no routine or discipline. In March, she was appointed Door County Poet Laureate by the county board of supervisors, serving from April 2019 through March 2021.
