RISE AND FALL: Writing Waters with Catherine Young
Each of us has a connection with water beginning with the arteries in our hands. Many of us have a treasured place beside a lake, waterfall, or stream we return to in heart and memory. In this two-hour workshop, we will explore waters and our deep connections to them. Using writing prompts and exercises, we will discover the stories in each of us to generate and craft prose and poetry. Open to all levels of writers.

Catherine Young shares her delight in finding the heart of a story. Her writing has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best American Essays and her memoir, Black Diamonds, Blue Flames: A Childhood Colored by Coal, has been long-listed for the Graywolf Press Nonfiction Prize. She worked as a national park ranger, farmer, mother, and educator. Her ecopoetry and prose is published in journals and anthologies nationally and internationally, including Cold Mountain, Ascent, Minding Nature, and The Driftless Reader. Rooted in farm life, Catherine lives with her family in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin.
