Barbara Williams is a writer, single parent of two adolescents, a translator, and a reader. Her experience as a reader and writer informs her translation practice, as literary translation calls for a high level of comprehension, familiarity, and comfort with the very nuances that make a foreign-language piece compelling in the first place. She has published short stories, flash fiction, and poetry in such works as FIYAH Magazine of Black Speculative Fiction, Sally Hemings Dreams, Nth Degree, and Lonely Robot Fiction Anthology Vol. 1. She was a finalist for the Glimmer Train Fiction Open. She is a two-time recipient of a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowship for the study of Swedish. She holds a BS from the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism, an MA in European Union Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Creative Writing (Fiction) from Northwestern.
