This summer is flying by! I feel like I have done and learned so much in these past few weeks and I still have so much time left. A few days ago, I monitored our first Craft of Writing Series workshop with Peter Geye and Rebecca Makkai. I want to start by saying that they are two of the nicest and most genuine people who are so willing to spend their time helping others on their journey to write a novel. Whenever I had read a book, whether it was for fun or for school, I never really thought about the author and the process that it took from just an idea to a published piece.

During the workshop, I was able to learn so much about how these two very accomplished authors discovered their passion for writing, how they found publishers, and even just the process of putting ideas and words together to create a story. I was also able to see the participants of the workshop ask questions and get help on their own novels. It was incredibly rewarding to see how much help and information the participants were getting and I was so glad to be a part of monitoring an event like that. On another high note, we still have two workshops left in this series! I can’t wait to see what else I learn.

We are also getting a lot closer to moving into the new Writing Center and I am so ready to be back in the new building and finally getting to welcome people back in!
