Dreams are dependent upon dreamers. Jerod, you and the Board of Write On, Door County are surely dreamers of the highest order, creating a dream retreat nested in a landscape that invites exploration, contemplation, and creation.
When I arrived, I’d been struggling with a difficult and pivotal scene in my current writing project. It was defying me. On Monday, I squeezed out two paragraphs and was frustrated by the seeming intransigence of the material.
Tuesday morning, the floodgates burst and the scene started rushing toward me. I wrote as fast as I could, snatching dialogue, grabbing mood, and clutching characters as if they were fish in a swift stream.
One could, I know, say that my subconscious had been hard at work on the scene for days, at last releasing it. Or one could say that the magic of Write On, the quiet, the beauty, the sense of unhurried purpose had unlocked the gates. The fact is that it happened here. Thank you, Write On, Door County.
