What would it have been like to live without cell phones or iPads? Travel back in time and write about life a century or more ago as you explore the buildings at Heritage Village and the wonders of the Door County Historical Museum! Participants have the option of taking the trolley from the Door County Trolley Station in Egg Harbor, or meeting at Hertiage Village at Crossroads at Big Creek. Participants will then travel by trolley through the Sturgeon Bay historical district to the museum. Once finished at the museum, the trolley will return participants to either Heritage Village or the trolley station.

Kaija Johnson heads Write On’s program for youth. Kaija joined the organization in summer 2016 and will lead free family activities as well as classes for young writers and readers.
Kaija, daughter of restaurant owners Kris and JJ Johnson, grew up in Sister Bay and attended k-12 Gibraltar School in Fish Creek. Following graduation from the University of Wisconsin—LaCrosse, where she earned her teaching degree, she spent time working in the Dominican Republic organizing art and English classes for disadvantaged youth. She returned to Door County to teach 5th grade at Gibraltar School where she was a much-loved teacher and was involved in starting a 5thgrade after-school writing club that helped start Write On’s programming.
Kaija took part in a summer writing program at Columbia University’s Teachers College led by Lucy Calkins, author of many well-regarded writing resources. The program emphasizes the development of children’s writing techniques which Kaija will bring to Write On. She looks forward to teaching children to write with love as well as to develop a love of reading and writing.
