The Best Book I Never Read

February 1 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

We’ve all done it. Our high school English teacher or a college lit professor assigned a novel that we had every good intention of reading, but time slipped away. So, the night before the exam, we scanned the Cliff Notes or watched the film adaptation. We didn’t do so well on the exam.

Here’s a chance to read those books without having to worry about your grade point average! Enjoy some of the fine crafted beers of Starboard Brewing Company and Cornerstone Pub and meet others who, like you, missed reading the book the first time around. Love the book? Hate the book? Don’t understand the book? Come out and tell us about it!

Grand InquisitorThis month’s selection is  The Grand Inquisitor by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The Grand Inquisitor is a section from The Brothers Karamazov. It is recited by Ivan, who questions the possibility of a personal and benevolent God, to his brother Alexei (Alyosha), a novice monk. “The Grand Inquisitor” is an important part of the novel and one of the best-known passages in modern literature because of its ideas about human nature and freedom and its fundamental ambiguity.

This program is presented in collaboration with NexGen.
