after the painting, By the Light of the Silvery Moon, by Leslie Wu
The angelus has long since rung,
the fires banked in hearth and sky.
Along the shore of this hushed bay
heron tucks beak beneath a wing
and sleeps. Eagle settles in her nest
and beaver in her den. Only owl
is watchful now as the silver moon
bends to her reflection
in darkly shadowed water.
